Introducing Stateful NFTs: The Future of Gaming with Paima Engine
At Paima Studios we designed Paima Engine to be the most advanced blockchain game engine available by taking lessons from Layer 2/rollup technologies, and thereby delivering on the vision of Trustless Web3 Gaming.
One of the most exciting developments we’re currently working on is the concept of Stateful NFTs. These non-fungible tokens represent a revolutionary new primitive made possible by the Paima Engine, and have the potential to fundamentally change the way the gaming industry operates. With Stateful NFTs, players will have new gameplay styles unlocked, and developers will have new tools to build more immersive and engaging gaming experiences.
The existing era of NFTs in blockchain gaming
Before we dive into Stateful NFTs, it’s important to understand the current state of NFTs in the gaming industry. In the general consciousness of players, NFTs are seen as static game assets which appear to be tied to the blockchain. While some blockchain games have expanded on this slightly by adding one or more fungible tokens and/or adding burning mechanics, this model offers little technological innovation, thereby trapping the games in an antiquated Web 2.5 world.
This Web2.5 era of NFTs in gaming is limited and, in many ways, disappointing. These NFTs are static, inactive, and almost like a rock. They rarely provide any truly novel gameplay experience for users and instead focus on being exciting to price speculators. This focus creates problems for gamers, including unsustainable economies and ruining the ability for players to actually enjoy the game (the reason they were here in the first place).
